Winter Flag Football

We're excited to announce the first season of RYFA Winter Flag Football! We've secured space in the new fieldhouse in Rogers, giving our younger athletes an opportunity to get back on the field, develop their skills, and have some fun during the winter months.

Flag football is a fast-paced, non-contact version of football that helps players develop their fundamentals, improve their understanding of the game, and build confidence while staying active and having fun. Players will have opportunities to work on passing, catching, route running, defensive coverage, and teamwork in a fun, competitive environment.

Whether your child is new to football, looking to build on their existing skills, or simply wants to stay active and spend time with friends this winter, our Winter Flag Football League is a great opportunity to do just that.

The league will feature two divisions, each combining two grade levels. Teams will be formed with the goal of creating balanced competition while providing players from both grades an opportunity to play together. To ensure a positive experience for all participants and accommodate the available fieldhouse space, registration will be limited to 60 players per division.

1st/2nd grade combined: 6 total teams (max of 60 kids total)

3rd/4th grade combined: 6 total teams (max of 60 kids total)

We're looking forward to kicking off our inaugural season and giving our younger athletes another opportunity to enjoy the game of football!

As with every youth sport, WE NEED VOLUNTEERS! All coaching positions are filled by volunteers and we will need families to step up and help. As a thank you to those who sign up to volunteer, we will be offering the following...

• Coaches will have their own athlete on their team and can choose ONE other player or assistant coach to be on their team!  
• Each coach will receive a free RYFA Coach's t-shirt
• A playbook and coaching materials will be provided upon request. No experience necessary!
• A pre-season coaches meeting will be held to answer any questions

Safety training is mandatory for all coaches within RYFA. The training covers abuse awareness, reporting, and player safety. Refresher courses will be every two years.

History

In 2018, Congress passed The Protecting Young Victims from Sexual Abuse and Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017 (the SafeSport Act). The legislation is aimed at preventing and reporting child abuse in youth sports by expanding the categories of “mandatory reporters” and requiring organizations to provide enhanced training.

In addition to requiring training, the SafeSport Act also expands the definition of mandatory reporter to include any “adult who is authorized, by a national governing body, a member of the national governing body…to interact with a minor or amateur athlete at an amateur sports organization facility or at any event sanctioned by a national governing body, a member of a national governing body, or such an amateur sports organization.” RYFA urges all adults to understand their reporting obligations outlined below.
